Sweet Potato Patties with Feta & Yogurt Sauce

Sweet Potato Patties

Excited to start my Ramadan recipes with these Sweet Potato Patties! This recipe was inspired by one of my favorite Turkish restaurants in DC, Ottoman Taverna. They have an appetizer called Patates Köfte, which are fried potato patties topped with a yogurt sauce and feta cheese. I decided to make a version inspired by theirs but used sweet potato instead. The slight crisp from the light fry on the patty combined with the creamy slightly sweet inside topped with the cooling cucumber yogurt sauce and salty feta is the perfect combination. These are perfect for Ramadan!

  • You can replace the sweet potato with regular potatoes if you prefer

Patties: 2 sweet potatoes

1/2 tsp Cumin powder

1 tsp Garlic powder

1/2 tsp Onion powder

1 egg

1 cup bread crumbs

Yogurt Sauce:

1 cup Greek yogurt

1 small cucumber - grated

1-2 cloves of garlic -grated

  1. Start by cooking the sweet potatoes.

  2. Once cooked, mash and add the cumin, garlic powder and onion powder and salt to taste.

  3. Add in the egg and bread crumbs and combine.

  4. Form the mixture into patties.

  5. Refrigerate the patties for 30 minutes.

  6. To make the yogurt sauce, combine the yogurt, cucumber, garlic, parsley and salt to taste.

  7. In a shallow plate add some flour. Take out the patties and coat them in flour.

  8. Shallow fry the patties until golden brown.

  9. Top with the yogurt sauce and then feta and parsley.

  10. Enjoy!
